The Ultima 6 Remake: New Shapes and Animation

Zygon Dragon has posted another update to The Ultima 6 Remake’s website, in which he reports that while there aren’t many new changes to report on, both AgentOrangeGuy and Crowley (the project’s artist) have made interesting developments in the areas of worldbuilding and art.

First up, worldbuilding:

AgentOrangeGuy has been working on the crypts and cleaning up dagger isle and the Shrine of Honesty .He did make a relic from U5… Windemere (which oddly enough was located near where Ambrosia is in u7). The castle is in ruins of course, but he plans on making a sidequest on getting a magebane sword and magic armor from the castle. it will have a back story on what happened to it after U5 and it is obviously sinking due to the earthquakes.

And next, art:

Crowley has done some fantastic shape and animation work. He’s created a new shape for Gwenno, the man in the stocks and Sinjen.

Here are blown-up versions of Crowley’s Gwenno sprites (the real sprites were only about 26 pixels across):

Alive!

[singlepic id=2247 w=120 h=180 float=center]

Not quite as alive!

As is becoming the norm for this project team, significant progress continues to be made on this Exult-based remake of Ultima 6.

Love the sprites/textures. There’s something to be said for the vibrant colors. Even the 16-color EGA palette was striking so. I remember the first time I saw a 256-color palette… God it looked so good. Deluxe Paint II and Ultima VI. That these representations are still created and treasured is a comfort, as they are beautiful.
