Forgotten World Patch 1.19f.01 Released!

As was foretold late last week, the Forgotten World team have released the first patch for Ultima 9 in nearly a decade, which fixes the music bugs in Valoria, Skara Brae, and Minoc. Previously, in these areas, “positive” music was supposed to feature in the soundtrack once the shrines were cleansed, but even the mighty 1.19f patch never correct the bug that prevented the music from playing. Iceblade and the rest of the team have since figured out how music triggering in Ascension works, and have made the proper music play…for the first time ever.

Iceblade does offer this cautionary note:

The one caveat to this music fix is that unfortunately the music does not change immediately upon cleansing a shrine, so you have to clear out the music by leaving the vicinity of the town or flushing the music (note this second option is less reliable). We will correct this minor issue in a later patch.

Now that they’re rolling, though, they want to let us know that the sky is the limit, and that they already have new bugfixes in mind:

Now, we would like to know which bug you would like to see fixed next. So vote in our poll to the right (currently you have to click results and then use the drop-down box to access the next poll). The bugs we are looking into next are located in Valoria (Demons not being slain bug and the bug with the signal flare), Minoc (the confrontation with Blackthorn), and Moonglow (the Moonglow Elevator Bug and disappearance of Mariah). If we can get Mariah working properly, Jaana will also be corrected.

I can’t actually seem to get the polls to work for me, so in lieu of that means of giving the team input, let me direct all you Dragons and Dragonettes to the project entry, whereat you can download the patch (it requires the 1.19f patch as well) and leave your thoughts in the comments form.

Was listening to the Minoc music after cleansing the Shrine of Sacrifice. Sounds beautiful. I’m very impressed with what you guys have done and will do. I honestly never thought you’d reach this point, but I stand corrected.

  2. Congratulations!!!

Since I have replayed this game recently, I have all savegames with me now. You bet I will try out this patch!

On a sidenote, during this journey, I visited Trinsic, visited Valoria, then cleansed Honor, and cleansed Valor. After these events, I’m supposed to be able to procure the War Bow of Blood. Unfortunately, perhaps due to this sequence I had chosen, the Jordan’s shipwreck did not appear as it used to do in my previous journey throughout Britannia in Ascension. Another bug to the collection (v1.19f).

You sure you checked the whole island? I know at times I’ve been unable to find and it was merely an issue of looking in the wrong place. I suppose it’s possible that the shipwreck is something that appears upon a trigger. Have you talked to the woman outside the cathedral that says her son run off to join the valorian knights (or something like that).

Been replaying Ultima IX, and geesh, the bugginess gets frustrating sometimes, even with 1.19. I’ve got Dayla’s doll, but I can’t give it back to her. I’ve got the journal of Flann’s dead son, but I can’t give that back to her either. Yet, when I look at a walkthrough, and it says both actions should be possible. I didn’t kill Jaana or Julia, but neither of them ever appear after cleansing the shrines. Sir Robin never appeared in the tavern in Britain. It’s things like that that can become super-frustrating.

    Good luck Iceblade! 😛

Funnily enough, a lot of that sounds trigger-related, doesn’t it?

Here’s hoping that Iceblade and the team are able to do a lot more with their new discoveries!

  7. @Iceblade

Not only did I look throughout the whole island for 30x (no joking), but I also found the right coordinates for the shipwreck in a walkthrough (maybe Hannibal’s).

To make things more explicit, I loaded an earlier save (before going to Valoria for the first time), cleansed Honor, then I went to Valoria, solved Destard, cleansed Valor, only to return to see the shipwreck and the bow there.

I have mentioned before, but this was a replay. The third one to be more exact. None of the previous ones had shown this bug. And I searched for this problem, there were no records of it on the internet.

I suspect this is the problematic sequence:

    1. Choose to go to Trinsic and talk to the people there.
    2. Go to Valoria and talk to the people there.
    3. Get Jordan’s Journal and return it to Flann.
    4. Solve Shame and clease the Shrine of Honor.
    5. Solve Destard and return to Valoria.
    6. No shipwreck will be there… not even after cleansing the Shrine of Valor.

In addition, why making Jordan’s ship appear only after solving Destard? This is ridiculous. The journal clearly registers the shipwreck and the giant crab long before he died…

  8. Iceblade says:

Okay, I’m putting the whole Jordan quest on the list. I’ll take a look through the sequence of triggers and see how its setup and probably simplify it. I’ll also take a look at the Dayla thing as well. Since these are usually well-behaved sequences of triggers, it is probably just something occurring out of order or some trigger not going off.

Note, it will a little while until I can understand enough of how these types of triggers work to be able to figure out the issue.

I can confirm this bug. No shipwreck for me either. I’ve seen material on Youtube with the shipwreck on the right place. It’s not in my game. I’ve already restored the shrine of valor but I found the book first (when the shrine was still destroyed) and then talked to valeria in Britain.

Oh, I don’t know if this is already fixed with this patch. I found some other very strange bugs. Maybe they are already known:

If you talk to Raven on her ship in Britain, when your next task is to talk to Lord British in Order to find a way to Yew, BEFORE you talked to Lord British, then he will disappear and your game practically ends here (you cannot go further). This is not only annoying but even sad because it’s the first conversation where the Avatar actually flirts with her.

Next strange bug: It was night when I cleansed the shrine near moonglow. After this the save files always got corrupted after I tried to sleep in Moolglow to wait for the next morning. But when I went to Raven first (before dawn) and went with her to Britain then I could sleep all I want and where I want again without an error.

  10. wtf_dragon says:

I don’t know about the shipwreck, but Moonglow seems to be an especially buggy area on modern systems (it wasn’t that bad back when I was playing on a P3, believe me!). And yes, save file corruption can occur if you tarry too long there.
