Classic Ultima Online Is Back In Development

Classic Ultima Online has been largely silent for a couple of years now (maybe more), but developer Shattered Moon posted an update at the beginning of February, in which he reviews the original objectives of the project and outlines where he’d like to take it in the future.

His goals seem reasonable, and include tweaking the UI, improving inventory handling, plugging memory leaks, and updating the SDK. He also hopes to post updates roughly once a month, to keep us all informed.

And of course, the original client for the game (which, for those who don’t remember, is a multiplayer version of Ultima 4) is still available; the server for it is also still up. Check it out today if you haven’t yet, and fire it up again if you have!

:/ I was hoping this was confirmation of the Origin classic shard they are considering making. There’s going to be a video this month on their site with the verdict on if they’re making one or not.

Did that video come out yet or not?

What? I said there is a video EA is releasing this later this month that will reveal if they are going to make a classic UO shard or not.

Oh geeze, that’s right. It’s like…right up there, staring me in the face.

It might be the case that I did not get enough sleep last night. Maybe. Possibly. Kinda.

      Wow.

Uhm…well, Cear, you’ll let us know when that one drops, right? Because that would totally be the sort of news this site would be looking for.

Although speaking of classic Ultima Online, I’ve been playing in In Por Ylem maybe an hour a day for the last week, and I’m enjoying myself. There’s regularly 1200 players active at any time I play, and I’ve met a lot of nice people. I’ve also been PKed twice, but that’s OK, since so far the good has outweighed the bad. There’s people, everywhere, doing something, it’s fun and exciting.

I haven’t been PK’d yet in IPY2, but I haven’t been playing that much either. It is a great game, but like all MMOs it is a lot more fun if you can play with people you know, so I’m holding off until I can make that happen.

I stuck my nose in, but only for about fifteen minutes…wandered around Britain, and briefly wondered if I could make some coin selling all the cast-off robes.

Then I had to get back to work on a video. C’est la vie.
