Tracy Hickman Popped By the Ultima Codex to Say Hello

Tracy Hickman, author of the Dragonlance novels and newly-appointed Lead Story Designer for Shroud of the Avatar just stopped by the Ultima Codex’s Shroud of the Avatar forums to say hello:

I’m Tracy Hickman, packing up my gear and preparing for a journey to the very heart of New Britannia. Exploring and discovering the stories of this mighty land are a challenge. Like you, I want to know what Shroud of the Avatar is about, who its characters are, what their stories mean and what fate has in store for them.

That’s what the journey is all about. So let’s find out together.

Might I encourage you all to stop by the Shroud forums and say hello?

So New Britannia is official as the world name?

Damn good question, and while speculating what the answer could be I wondered how much of the past Ultimas are going to be present in the story or on the map. Things might get wonky if they start using all the town and character names, as well as references to plot elements from the past. If they did that to a large extent it could be argued that SotA was a derivative work. Ask any Tolkien modder what that means if you want to see a frown.

I’m treating it as such until such time as I am told that it is not.

Tracy Hickman!!! Oh wow, one half of the best writing team TSR ever had. Dragonlance Chronicles is by far my most favorite fantasy series. It is so much more well written than LOTR. If they could ever do DLC as movie with the quality that was put into LOTR, heads would explode in extacy.

Ironically I was reading DLC at the same time I was playing Ultima 4 in 1987.
