New Beautiful Britannia Screenshot: Awesome Walls!

Firstknight dropped me an email to announce the latest “Awesome Screen” from Beautiful Britannia:

Welcome present from Viriathus

I very happy to present the first work of Viriathus, our new texture artist, who supports us from now on by providing high quality textures for Beautiful Britannia.

Look at latest “Awesome screen”, the new designed wall really proves the quality of his work.

In an effort to save on bandwidth, I’m only including a scaled-down version of the screenshot in this post:

Bricks! Lovely bricks!

As you can see, it looks pretty good…much better than the default “brick wall” texture, for sure. You can check out the full-resolution image at the Forgotten World website.

  1. Very nice. Out of curiosity, what’s the maximum resolution IX supports for landscape and/or object textures? I’m guessing 128×128, but mine eyes may deceive me. Is 256×256 or higher possible?

Firstknight discussed the maximum texture sizes here. It looks like 256×256 is the maximum supported texture resolution. Whether that’s what this texture is at, I cannot say. (I’d assume so; you may be getting a false negative from my having down-scaled the screenshot.)

Looks good. I continue to love this project more and more. Can’t wait to see more big fixes too!

  3. Firstknight says:

For this particular texture, we upgraded the original 64×64 one to the maximum possible, which means it has now 256×256.

The texture, which can be seen above the upgraded one within the screen, has exactly 64×64, so it’s easy to compare the quality.

    Some General information:
There are over 7500 Textures within Bitmap16.flx in total, and there are over 5000 of them NOT USING 256×256. And even if not all textures are necessary to be upgraded, because the are not used in the actual release of the game or are used for LODs, there are still more than 3000 useful to be upgraded.

When we go even more in detail, not all of the 3000 are used very often or are very disturbing low-res. On the other side, some 256×256 ones are not fitting into our “style concept”, the LB castle ones for example, so we try to rework them also.

So, from the actual point of view, we plan to include at least 1000 reworked textures in 256×256 resolution within the final release of “Beautiful Britannia”.

At the moment we have only 20 textures finished, means there is still a long way to go, but we are willing to finish, what we started.

    Hey,
Does anyone know the stats on the crown? I found it last night in a cave in Minoc. It seems to glow in the dark and create light. Good for dungeons and night time. But not sure if the stats are any good?
    Thanks,

It’s not that great…just look at the armor bar in the UI when you wear it.

But the light is nice to have in caves and suchlike. I usually keep the thing in my backpack for that reason. Also, it does look kinda cool.

Ok. Its just that my character seems to not take damage. Was not sure if it was a bug or the crown 🙂 I’ve been getting loads of crashes recently 🙁 Even with the unofficial patch.

There are parts of the game that suffer from that — Moonglow comes to mind, as do the parts involving manual sailing. Best I can recommend is to take a backup of your save game right now, and then save often — using different save slots! — as you progress through these areas.
