New Gallery: Ultima 8 Source Graphics

Courtesy of Joe Garrity of the Origin Museum, and to the hard work of both him and the team at the Wing Commander CIC, Ultima Aiera is pleased to present two high-resolution images of in-game artwork from Ultima 8.

If you’ve played Pagan before (as Sergorn Dragon is presently doing), you’ll recognize both scenes; one is the confrontation with Pyros, and the other is the Guardian’s hand holding the Avatar above the land, just prior to casting him down into the sea. What is impressive about both images is that they are not stills captured from within the game; they are screen captures from the original renderings of those sequences, and are as such at a much higher resolution than we got to see on our monitors back in the day.

Hey, WOW! I want to see a lot more of this!

  3. Wow–I didn’t think anyone would’ve thought these more than mildly interesting.
I’ll see what more I can dig up.
There are still some neat things on my old website, if anyone wants to check it out:

The ‘STORIES’ section, is worth perusing. Also check out the ‘accomplishments’ section, accessible from the main page.
Let me know if there are any items of interest that any of you would like more information on–I’ll do a quick write up and give it to WTFD for posting.

I find these images quite awesome actually. I have been trying to collect some of this old art for high res downloads for years. I am currently trying to remaster the original covers through scans supplied by the community. I look forward to these releases and hope there is much more to come.

Awesome, we seriously need to find more original Ultima art files. Box scans are just no substitute. I would personally love to see original art files for the U6 and U7 covers in particular.
