Rock, Paper, Shotgun’s Top 100 Games of All Time List No Longer Includes an “Ultima” Title

I don’t know if that bridge had been crossed already, because I don’t always take note of Top 100 listicles these days. But for what it’s worth, Rock, Paper, Shotgun have published the 2022 update to their Top 100 Games of All Time list — split, as always, into Part One and Part Two — and there’s not a single Ultima title to be found thereupon.

Which is not to say that there aren’t some great games to be found on the list; there are many. But one usually expects to see at least Ultima Online — or, on occasion, Ultima 7 — on such lists as this, and both are conspicuously absent this time around.

Rock Paper Shotgun has lost an eighth!

I wouldn’t put much stock into this list. There’s only a small handful of games from the 90’s. There seems to be a lot of recency bias. Some of the games are modern indies that I’ve never even heard of.
