Own a Piece of the Origin Museum!

It wasn’t widely publicized, but some months back Joe Garrity sold off the entirety of his extensive collection of Origin Systems memorabilia to Jordan Carroll, another collector. There’s a long story behind Joe’s decision to hand over the Origin Museum to the care of another, which isn’t material to this post; all you need to know is that the entire collection (more or less) has changed hands and has a new steward.

The good Mr. Carroll has recently listed a selection of items from the Museum’s collection for sale on his eBay profile. Lest you worry that this is the prelude to a fire sale and the complete dissolution of the collection, he has clarified — in a comment to a post on Facebook — that the entirety of the Museum won’t be coming up for auction:

[The Museum is] over 10k items. There’s no way to keep all of the smaller items or to display them (they never were displayed). Some items belong back in the hands of the collectors who love Origin developed games. The larger, more unique items, will be donated in the future.

Still, you’re encouraged to click on over to Rares Market on eBay to peruse the selection of items on offer there. Like as not, you may find something interesting to add to your own collection.

Well, I have to ask now.

      You can ask. 😉

In all seriousness, it’s not mine to tell. Suffice it to say: it wasn’t done on a whim, but was something years in coming.
