Through the Moongate, Volume 2: Coming to Kickstarter Next Week

Andrea Contato has had a busy and tumultuous year since the successful Kickstarter campaign for the first volume of Through the Moongate, his impeccably researched attempt to tell the story — often in the words of the people who worked there — of Origin Systems, its founder Richard Garriott, and the game series that he is most well-known for…Ultima. In addition to fulfilling orders from that campaign and issues arising therefrom, he has been working to finish up the second volume of the book. You may recall that Through the Moongate’s first volume covered Garriott’s and Origin’s history from the creation of Akalabeth through to Ultima 6. The second volume, then, begins with Wing Commander and Ultima 7, and ends with Portalarium and Shroud of the Avatar.

And in case you didn’t back the book during its crowdfunding campaign, you can still purchase a copy of the first volume through the good Mr. Contato’s website.

And just yesterday, it was announced that Rustic Dragon would be heading up the editing and proofreading of the English translation of the second volume:

We are proud to announce that Edward Vitralis, Rustic Dragon of Hearth of Britannia has joined the team as copy editor for Part II of Through the Moongate. He brings with him a minor in English and over a decade of proofreading and college level tutoring experience. Additionally, his Portalarium experience, attention to detail, and vast Ultima knowledge will prove invaluable to this project. Please give him a warm welcome!

Remember, the Kickstarter for Part II of Through the Moongate launches on September 16th with new translation, new editing, and new exciting backer rewards. Mark your calendars!

Much as was the case with the first volume, completion of the second volume will be crowdfunded through Kickstarter, and the campaign will again kick off on the anniversary of Ultima 4’s release, September 16th. That’s next Monday; art thou ready?

Awesome! I backed the first and am looking forward to the second. The book, as expected, as a great read.
