Dr. Cat Honors an Old, Hidden Contest in Runes of Virtue

A poster on Reddit recently announced that he had found a hidden room — and a conversation with Sherry the Mouse, no less — in Runes of Virtue, one of two Ultima titles produced for Nintendo handhelds (in the case of the first Runes game, the original GameBoy).

Someone brought the post to the attention of Dr. Cat, one of the principal programmers on Runes of Virtue, who then chimed in with a kindly offer (and a bit of history too):

I provided Origin customer service with dozens of dragons for this. I think they sent one out to everybody that sent us a post card, not just one a month. It was great to hear from some of the people that enjoyed the game!

Origin isn’t around to do that any more, but if you mail me a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope, since you did find the Origin HQ secret room in Runes of Virtue, I could send you a nice origami dragon too. 🙂

I wonder if that first paragraph could qualify for a record; usually, when Dr. Cat expounds upon fascinating facets of Origin Systems history, he tends to go on at some length. By comparison, three sentences is stunningly brief!
