Help Support Avatar’s Radio

I was told that “Avatars Radio seriously started from boredom”. In no way  is Avatars Radio boring… in fact with Amber Raine in charge, there is no chance of that happening…  All the DJs do their best to keep it as entertaining as possible with some of the best crew around. Those on the mic and the several behind the scenes. Yet, Avatars Radio did start out of boredom.

January 2014, Amber found herself in IRC where the topic was all about music, with a light bulb going off in her head she said “well, that is what I do!” and decided to hope on her stream and invited others to listen. Figuring she might just be playing music for herself she was surprised to find several people turned on their radio! It did not take long to realize just what was needed. A radio station, for the community, by the community from the community!

The radio started slowly, but grew quickly. Only a few hours here or there when Amber was able to find herself able to turn it on, the hours the radio was operating began to grow and soon became the 24 hours a day 7 days a week it is running now. With terrestrial bards meeting New Britannian bards (whether they have music going into the game or not – Avatars Radio wants to help them get their music out there into the ears of the listeners) on the airwaves. It has always been a goal from the moment the station became official to be a place where Avatars could come to not only be entertained, but share their works, music, poetry, stories, or just about anything else that could be thought of that could be broadcast over a radio.

With the help of a few amazing people who believed and supported the idea (including Portalarium), a website was created where Avatars could easily tune in without having to work magic with winamp. Although, it is said some people still do listen through winamp and other media devices! Upon witnessing how many Avatars used the website to listen to the radio, yet there was no way for them to send in requests without annoying the main #SotA room. #AvatarsRadio studio IRC Chatroom was created. This amazing room brings the staff and listeners together in one area, where chat is open, free (PG!), and requests could flow without worry of distraction from what main chat room was all about.

Vbot, awonderful creation from Violation to help and support the station, now is able to keep us updated on when DJs are working, how to get requests in, and so many other wonderful features! They invite everyone to come play with him, and see what fun things he can do. Trevor was the first DJ that came on board to help, followed soon by Mystic, FireLotus (yes *that* FireLotus), Celith, royalsexy, and Lady Adnor. These amazing DJs are still to this day on the team and we are always happy with open door to welcome more! The staff is even willing to teach you how to do it!

For those that are nervous to be “live” they have offered a chance to pre-record your show and we would air it at the time of day you choose, such amazing community members have chosen to do guest spots in this manner, ranking among our most favorite memories Indi Martin of Tortoise and Hare creations, Rustic Dragon, Miracle Dragon, and the on going show from Lord Baldrith, Asclepius and Sir Stile of the caverns and beyond.  With so much happening in the community, events, contests, and updates. Avatars Radio has found themselves happily sharing and promoting all the different groups around our little island and soon all of New Britannia! Promoting of the community is what the goal has always been and they hold fast to that.

As the days flow into weeks, and weeks into months, seasons change and the weather is getting colder. With the cold weather blasting on the dome of the moon tower. The realization of the costs for running hosting, having the correct licenses for the music, and other things came after 11 months, and so I am pleased to share that Avatars Radio now has a Patreon account.  This account is to help Avatars Radio minimize their costs and continue to provide that “extra blanket for those cold nights”.
