BioWare Mondays

Paragon Lost, the Mass Effect anime centered on the character of James Vega, has been delayed, and won’t be released as planned on November 13th. The FUNimation-produced film will fill in some of Vega’s backstory, especially the bit about his brush with the Collectors.

A trailer for Paragon Lost can be found here, for those interested.

Also, you can grab an unreleased tune from the soundtrack of the Leviathan DLC here.

Frank Gibeau, president of EA Labels, has said a few somewhat…surprising things in recent weeks, not the least of which was his much-overblown remark that EA wouldn’t be producing purely single-player games any longer. It should thus come as no surprise that, even in the shadow of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s transition to free-to-play, that he has come out and declared that the subscription model isn’t dead yet. He’s right, of course; certain forms of content are better suited to subscription-based delivery (he cites the example of Battlefield Premium), and a certain percentage of players will — for the foreseeable future — prefer to pay a flat fee as opposed to having to navigate various microtransaction-based setups.

That said, I think it’s fair to say that the subscription space will shrink; we’ll see it used less, and only for specific forms of deliverable content.

Speaking of The Old Republic, its latest update will introduce the “Terror from Beyond” operation, which will feature some massive new enemies to defeat. Among other things. It’s evidently already playable on the game’s beta servers, so expect to see it roll out into release in fairly short order.

Free-to-play rewards have also been expanded…if, that is, you have a thing for Jawas. Oh, and speaking of Leviathan, there have been a couple more reviews published for it.

Exit question: Can feedback make Dragon Age 3 better? By which it is meant: will Dragon Age 3 actually be an improvement over its predecessor, assuming that BioWare listens to feedback concerning Dragon Age 2?

Honestly, I don’t think the answer is as “yes” as some would like it to be.

It’s going to take a lot for Bioware to redeem themselves in my eyes. I don’t see myself purchasing another one of their games unless it gets overwhelmingly positive reviews from players. Dragon Age 3 is definitely not on my list of must own games.
