Ultima 6 Title Screen Comparison

To celebrate the release of Ultima 6 on Good Old Games today, it seems fitting to look at the differences in the title screen graphics between the various ports of the game.

The PC98 port

The SNES port

[singlepic id=1574 w=500 h=313 float=center]

The Commodore 64 port

The Amiga port

[singlepic id=1576 w=500 h=313 float=center]

The Atari ST port

[singlepic id=1577 w=500 h=375 float=center]

The FM Towns port

The PC DOS original with CGA Graphics

The PC DOS original with EGA Graphics

Obviously, there are more ports of the game than just this limited selection, but this is all I could track down online. The Commodore 64 title screen, when compared to any of the others, illustrates in stark detail just how much Ultima 6 had to be pared back to work on other systems at the time of the game’s release.

Mobygames has screenshots of the Amiga, Atari ST, and FM Towns version title screens…

The C64 title screen, along with the game in general, could have been higher quality. The use of multicolor everywhere and no hires elements really kills the overall quality of this port.

Have to say the PC98 title screen looks the best to me, the dark outline around the menu options makes it more readable.

The C64 screen looks like an NES game hah.
