Beautiful Britannia 2011 R2 Released!

Firstknight has also posted news to the Forgotten World website, announcing the slightly-earlier-than-expected release of Beautiful Britannia 2011 R2, the latest update from the Beautiful Britannia project.

Because myself and Iceblade will be working together on some difficult background tasks within the next series of months (related to decoding and creating tools, with a clear focus to the Conversation System of UIX), I have finally decided to release the current build of BB…

Features:
=========
* More than 100 new designed Textures (Terrain, Foliage, LB Castle, Walls), most of them in higher resolutions than the original ones.
* More than 15.000 objects added (Flowers, Grass and other plants, Butterflies, most of them around yew) to the original release from 1999.
* Contains the latest version of U9BB.EXE (supports more than one fogless overworlds, those overworlds will be implemented in future releases)

NOTES:
Terrain textures are not completely finished yet, please excuse the disburbing effects because of missing transistions.
BB2011R1 Hotfix 1 is included.

He also sent along several screenshots showing off some of the improvements made to the game since the R1 Hotfix release:

I must say, I’m always amazed at what First Knight can do. Aside from removing the fog (a relatively minor but difficult change), the engine hasn’t been altered in any way. This is just Ultima IX being brought up to its full potential.

    stunning, absolutely stunning!

Nice GOG banner. I hope you’re getting some compensation for that?

Oh, you mean my hack job there?

As it happens, yes, I’m a GOG affiliate now, and I whipped that up hastily last night so I could at least have something. Version 2.0 of the banner will feature more Ultima art (now that U4 is out) and will be shorter.

I do like how the thing I did with the text turned out. Zoom blur FTW!

    Many thanks, friends.

And special thanks to Iceblade, Hawkwind and all other members of “Team Forgottenworld” (both current and past members) for their excellent decoding and background work, BB wouldn’t look like this without them (even if it’s only 10-15% finished atm).

Currently I’ll try to support them with analysing the conversation system, Iceblade has created some wonderful pieces of text within the last 5 years, and it would be a shame, if this content never find it’s way into the game.

To the next I want to optimize the building process for BB.
Beautiful Britannia development itself will continue in Q1/2012 (at least that’s how it’s planned).

So, have a good time with the latest BB release, and feel free to post your comments here.

Oh, and I have to mention, that Viriathus has made some really good progress on Textures for Britain houses, expect some fine screens later this year.

  6. Iceblade says:

The terrain texture improvements along with those model textures already improved have made the game so much more beautiful that even the original textures look better.
