Sylph: Pre-Alpha 8; Physics Improvements; Audio Transitioning to OpenAL

Kevin Fishburne has been hard at work on Sylph: Project Miyaji, and has released three videos showcasing some of the major chances that will appear in the eighth pre-alpha release of the game. The video above demonstrates some of the changes to the “on rails” physics the game uses. This video, meanwhile:

…is the first of two videos showcasing Kevin’s work on transitioning Sylph’s soundscape away from SDL, and over to a technology called OpenAL:

Sylph’s soundscape is progressing from a wax wheel to a live symphony as I continue to migrate the 143 (and counting) sound effects from mono SDL to 7.1 OpenAL. In this gameplay demo you can hear both SDL and OpenAL in unison.

Here’s the second video demonstrating the audio changes:

Which is accompanied by this comment from Kevin:

Gameplay with commentary showing my current progress on implementing OpenAL, an open-source 3D positional audio library, in Sylph: Project Miyaji. Please let me know what you think in the comments as I’d love your feedback and suggestions.

Be sure to follow Kevin on Twitter for all the latest and greatest updates about Sylph; he posts far too much far too often for me to keep track of everything here.
