Ananias: Version 1.70 Released (New Magic System!)

Slashing Dragon has released, just in time for the end of 2015, an update for Ananias, the roguelike (and somewhat Ultima-inspired) game he has been working on over the course of much of the year. As usual, the free and paid versions of the game are available from a number of different online storefronts, and then across several platforms:

Standard Edition

Fellowship Edition

The major change in this release is the addition of a new magic system:

There are 41 spells distributed in 4 schools of magic with 8 circles of power each. You player class determines the maximum circle of power you can reach for each school.

In order to cast spells you need to spend your Magic Points, your class determines your starting MP and you can extend them within the game as a stat upgrade. Ethyl and Methyl potions allow recovering MP. You also recover half your spent MP on level up.

Other changes include the addition of a tablet-optimized UI, new headgear equipment, and of course the usual raft of bugfixes and tweaks.

Slash also published a look back at the work he did in 2015. Ananias comprises much of it, of course, although Slash did work on some other projects (some — though not all — of which have also been reported on here at the Codex). It’s not an overly long post, and it’s well worth having a read of it you’ve followed Slashing Dragon’s work this year.
