“The Ultima 6 Remake” Version 1.3 Released

I missed reporting on this last month when the update actually dropped, and I owe Zygon Dragon an apology for that because he did reach out to let me know that it had been released.

Version 1.3 of The Ultima 6 Remake — an Exult-based remake of Ultima 6: The False Prophet — has been long in coming (version 1.2 came out in September of 2024), and is mainly focused on bringing a number of bug fixes to the mod:

  • fixed conversation breakage of Sherry
  • fixed Valor rune quest so the attributes aren’t messed up (training and experience) during the swap
  • changed Leodon’s shape to new one made by Ideal Dragon
  • various conversation errors, misspellings etc.
  • fixed healer code to allow for resurrecting party members with new body shapes (Sentri, Gwenno, Leodon etc)
  • Manrel code – daffodils don’t disappear, no longer temporary
  • changed dialogue on Manrel about “Beyvin” – He asks you if you have already been to his grave which doesn’t make sense if you say no. Changed to “Oh, are you wanting to visit my cousin’s grave?” to make more sense.
  • fixed Kador the dog’s code, no longer thinks you stiffed him even when you paid him after doing tricks
  • overhaul of Michael / Quenton quest, fixed dialogue
  • fixed the death events code to be less buggy
  • added new functionality to the panpipes (Ask Daros for a hint on one of those)
  • added fix to mute Guardian’s dialogues “rest my friend and heal”, “poor poor Avatar!”
  • fixed a bug where gold wasn’t being charged properly and selling items actually gives money now
  • fixed a bug where if you clicked the statue in front of the museum it gives the test of Love (but try clicking it anyway!!)
  • fixed wonky music in some areas like different versions of Rule Britannia
  • fixed typo that prevented Nicodemus from selling the Telekinesis spell correctly, along with other bugs that prevented spells from being bought. Now all spells are buy-able. (Thanks to BlueEyesFoxing in discord for pointing out other spells not buy-able or missing!)
  • Fixed some wonkyness with the Storm Cloak thanks to piesgud in discord who pointed out it wasn’t working correctly and brainstorming together we have the code working as intended – all spell items are deleted from EVIL or CHAOTIC aligned enemies, the anti magic storm is active, and magebane flag set so enemies can’t cast invisibility, teleport, summon etc. The storm cloak behaves like torches or magic rings do, it has a certain quality number that depletes every so often and will break once quality hits 0.

However, there are a few new features:

  • cooking system that had been partially added is now fully functional. Animals like deer, cows, sheep now give raw meat. It can be cooked on a frying pan (buy-able at Efram’s provisions) next to either a camp fire, or on top of a stove. There is a chance you will burn it, that decreases the higher your dexterity is. Campfires can also be created by using a knife or a dagger on a tree to get some kindling. Clicking on the kindling will light it, then after some time the fire dwindles and burns out, leaving a scorch mark.
  • new npcs added, one of which is an alchemist so you can buy potions. Some npcs have new functionality , Manrel will now sell potions as well.
  • added functionality to pocket watch to show day of week based on in game day
  • overhauled the karma system, you can now check it at shrines or z status
  • music is now default digital in the cfg file to take advantage of the custom music added (U6 title screen music and NOT u7bg) and changes to Exult allow for disabling the standard U7BG guardian intro.
  • added new functionality to the shears – double-click and target a container like backpack / crate / pouch and any cloth items you have will be automatically converted into bandages
  • added working, shootable cannons on ships! Thanks to Grant W. Chapman for the awesome cannon frames for the ships! The cannons work as regular cannons would only they shoot diagonally as well. The cannons pull cannonballs and powder kegs stored in the hold.
  • added healing function to Jaana – she will cycle through the party, intelligently healing all sick or injured party members based on hp from most injured to least injured. She will use bandages if HP is not too low, potions if HP is very low. She also gives a +3 hp advantage for using her instead of manually using them since she’s a healer / druid.
  • added functionality to Iolo where he will now re-order the party if you so choose without having to do it manually (except the Avatar of course).
  • added an easy loot function for gold coins, bars and nuggets, gems, and reagents: double-click the item in the game world or in containers and it will put it in the party’s inventory. It will check to see if you’re in the same room / can walk to it, and if the item is ‘stealable’ – doesn’t belong to you and any npcs who actually witness the crime will call the guards (they have to be within 10 tiles of you and actually facing your direction).
  • added functionality to the sword – double-click it while its in your weapon hand and target cobwebs and you will cut them away. It helps to loot bodies / areas that are covered in cobwebs.
