Richard Garriott: "I don't think we've yet mastered the techniques of true interactive storytelling."

And I suppose he’d be the man to know:

I really cannot enjoy a game with no story, for the most part.

Do watch the whole thing; it’s a really interesting look at story-telling in gameplay, and it hits most of the correct points in that discussion.

Interesting piece. Its the clash of the impossibilities of creating an open free world and a linear story in a video game, and what attempts produce. Something that real life does flawlessly. Good video.

Im more a fan of subtle story telling as opposed to lots of cut scenes. Too many cut scenes feel like I’m watching a movie.

I can understand how complicated it can be to create an interesting story and dialog is a large open world sandbox game though.
