“ANKH VR” – “Ultima 4” in VR – Has Been Released

It has been a while since I last posted an update about James Surine’s port of Ultima 4 to virtual reality,. At the time, he was still working on exporting game data from Ultima 4 and getting it to read properly in the Unity engine, but the progress has since progressed to the point that the good Mr. Surine has released what he now calls ANKH VR for the Oculus Quest on Sidequest (evidently a third-party app store for the Quest):

ANKH VR is a VR port of Ultima IV Quest of the Avatar where you travel to the distant world of Britannia in a quest to become the Avatar. This game was first released in 1985 for the Apple II personal computer and is the fourth in the series of the Ultima video games by Richard Garriott aka Lord British. It is an open world RPG and was the Skyrim of its day. This requires ALL the original game files from the PC DOS version to play as this download does not contain any intellectual property from the original game. This VR port attempts to maintain the original pixel graphics and feel of the original game but in virtual reality.

Full installation instructions can be found at the project’s GitHub page. I don’t own an Oculus device myself, but if you happen to do so, please do let us know in a comment how well ANKH VR plays, and what it’s like to experience Britannia in VR!
