Citadel Studios’ Legends of Aria is a sandbox fantasy MMORPG, developed by several Ultima Online veterans. So it is perhaps fitting that a group of Ultima Online fans — Gorgan & Team — have put begun crafting a detailed re-creation of Ultima Online’s Sosaria in a Legends of Aria community server, which they are calling Shards of Britannia (perhaps a nod to Legends of Aria’s original working title, Shards Online). Per the project’s About page:

Shards of Britannia is a community server for the LEGENDS OF ARIA game. We work to modify the game with the toolkit provided by Citadel Studios to be more like our favorite classic game, Ultima Online. The project is run by VOLUNTEERS in our free time in collaboration with the players. The project has a humble beginning as an experiment started by a small group of friends and has since grown into the passion project that it is today.

While still very much a work in progress, the first screenshots show a lot of promise (as does the announcement trailer, above):

To play Shards of Britannia, you’ll need to purchase a Citizen Pass for Legends of Aria; that will get you the full range of game client features, which you’ll need access in order to play on the Shards of Britannia server. You can also follow the project’s Trello board to keep tabs on their progress. And if you’re really keen, there’s also a Shards of Britannia Patreon; it won’t get you any in-game rewards, but they do offer a few perks on their Discord server for those that back them.
