Breaking: Novian & Former Britannian Monarch Engaging in Election Interference in the US
When Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden warned, recently, against foreign interference in the upcoming presidential elections in the United States, he no doubt had Russia and, perhaps, China in mind. But apparently, he should have paid closer attention to the extraplanetary nation of Novia, which may once also have been known as the kingdom of Britannia.
Shockingly, I was recently able to intercept a piece of correspondence sent out by Lord British to his allies around the world, in which the Novian monarch urges support — especially financial support — for Biden and his recently-chosen running mate, Kamala Harris:
While the kingdoms in my games may not be democracies, the one we love and cherish on Earth is in danger.
Most of you reading this recognize the importance of the “He for She” movement and for me, one thing this means is supporting my wife, Laetitia, known in my games as Arabella, in her incredible work to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Now, being Canadian, I’m not an expert on American election law. However, from what I was able to find by way of a few searches, it would be illegal under most circumstances for the monarch of a foreign nation to fundraise for an American presidential candidate, save by way of making donations to a US-based social welfare organization. Such an organization could then, in turn, make donations to e.g. a political action committee (PAC), and would be the listed donor to that PAC. Moreover, the organization itself would not be required to disclose its donors, unlike the PAC.
And perhaps that’s what the Novian monarch means with his cryptic reference to Quest 46…perhaps this is a sneaky ploy by the ruler of another land, in a time to come, to funnel ill-gotten funds to a US presidential candidate in a way that would not raise legal red flags with the US’ Federal Election Commission.
More anon, when and if additional information becomes available.
facepalm
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of how this merges in-game and IRL either, which is why I went with the interference angle.
Sign of the times, I suppose.
Creative post. But I’d rather not see any politics on here at all.
Glad you found it creative. My first reaction to the email was, I’ll admit, closer to disgust; I certainly wasn’t happy to see the Lord British persona co-opted into a political advert.
So in part, the comedy here was me working through that disgust.
Well, it was a click-baity headline that got me to read the article and I’m glad I did. This is so bizarre.
So, what was this? This was an e-mail to people on the SotA mailing list?
I assume so. Can’t think of why else I’d have received it.
Hey…he’s just staying in character, roleplaying the continued arc of Lord British, from an enlightened leader, to a deluded, senile figurehead!
Wait..is this a tacit green light to retroactively mod all the Ultima’s in game politics!?
