Corven – Path of Redemption: Migration to Unity; Soundtrack Piece Now Available
I’ve been woefully lax in posting news about Corven – Path of Redemption, the indie game that grew out of the cancelled Ultima IX: Redemption fan project. However, since its announcement as an Unreal Engine title, there have been a few significant changes and updates to the game…not the least of which is that the team behind it has changed (mainly, shrunken), and that a different engine is now being used (namely, the Unity engine). As you can see from the time stamps on the tweets that Corv published explaining all of this, these changes happened a while ago:
Due to changes in the team, mainly that one member had to leave for personal reasons, I had to reevaluate fundamental design decisions and came to the conclusion that it is best to change the direction of the project in a way that I am less dependent on additional team (cont.)

members, especially additional programmers.
In order to achieve this I made two big changes.
1.) the game is being developed in Unity instead of Unreal Engine. This allows me to take advantage of the far bigger Unity developer community which saves me a lot of time. (cont.)

This is the main reason the news update took a while, because creating the whole landscape in Unity and getting the style right took quite a while.
2.) The gameplay will be much more story, discovery and puzzle focused. The game can be described as first person adventure (cont.)

rather than a role playing game. Nothing of the story will be cut, in fact it will be expanded, there will be more interaction with the world and things for you to discover and solve, but there will be no combat and no stats.
I hope many of you will still be interested (cont.)

The First Age of Update: As noted by Infinitron Dragon in the comments, here the claim is made that Corven will not be an RPG. However, a more recent update posted to the game’s website corrects this statement, and confirms that yes, Corven will be an RPG. Right…on with the article!
in this project, even with those fundamental design changes.

Corv also released a few screenshots of the game world, as rebuilt in Unity, around the same time that the above announcement was made:
More recently, Corv released a screenshot of the complete map of Corven’s world, which has a strongly Britannian influence to it (if I do say so myself). He also posted a news article to the game’s website which discusses the migration to Unity and what we can expect to see from the project in the near future:
The world in Unity is coming along very well. Still lots to do of course, but here are a few screenshots from the start island (Veroen).
Quick reminder: The world in Corven is open and not split up in scenes. Only dungeons and similar areas will be loaded separately.
I will post gameplay updates in the not too distant future. I want to get it polished more before I post any of it.
Corv also released a sample of the Corven soundtrack this week, which is well worth a listen:

There’s definitely something of an Ultima-esque feel to the piece.
Also, there’s now a project entry for Corven over on the Inspired Works subdomain.
