Support This Ultima-Inspired Brewery on GoFundMe
The Ayuda Ophidian Brewing Company is a Spain-based microbrewery which produces, among other fine drinks, an ale inspired by Ultima 7 Part 2: Serpent Isle. (You’ll also note a reference to that game in the name of the company!)
And, at present, the company — which is headed up by Rob Craig, also known to us as Zygon Dragon — is attempting to raise funds (via GoFundMe) to upgrade its brewing equipment:
Ophidian Brewing Company has been brewing in the heart of the Sierra Calderona amazing ales and lagers for four years now. Thanks to you and your love for our beer this project has turned into a reality. Something that we could never have accomplished without your support. We salute you!!
During this time and over the four years we have done many changes to the installations, brewing equipment and brewing process. All these changes have always been funded personally by myself (Rob Craig) with no cash interventions from investors or banks, but now we would like to take this up a notch to the next level.
Our plan is to buy a new bottling machine to replace the old one thus giving us more capacity for bottling and also allowing us to have a more stable and better-quality beer. With this new bottling machine and the changes in the bottling process, it will also allow us to change the layout of the brewery and create a proper climate-controlled cellar for finished products. Giving us more shelf life and making sure each bottle is correctly controlled.
If you’re willing to back the brewery to the tune of at least €15, they’ll happily give you a t-shirt and a signed certificate of thanks (if and when you’re able to give the brewery a visit).
This is so cool! I always hoped someone would make an Ultima inspired beer or wine! I remember reading in Stephen Edmond’s Book, Ultima: The Ultimate Collector’s Guide, that at one point there was an actual Serpentwyne that was made. Now I have to see if I can find this beer anywhere stateside!
I don’t imagine you will have a lot of luck finding it in the US. But do let us know if you are able to!
