The Ultima 6 Remake: Gargoyle City Screenshot

The Ultima 6 Remake team have released, on their Facebook page, a screenshot of a building from the Gargoyle City, which can be seen above. They also would like to get some feedback from the community:

Just a concept of a gargoyle building I’ve made so far. Not sure whether to keep them “open air” and no roofs like the original or add a roof to it because I can? Here’s a comparison shot from the original and what I have so far. What do you all think?

One thing that’s notable in the image — and this is something I hadn’t really considered about the difference in graphics and engine between Ultima 6 and Ultima 7 — is that the building is a lot more square in Ultima 6, whereas under Exult it is much more rectangular. I wonder if that’s actually something to do with how the graphics for Ultima 7 were put together (different length/width proportions of objects common to both games, for example), or if it’s just how the Ultima 6 Remake team have chosen to build this particular structure.

I will say that it’s a bit disappointing that they’re using a default Britannian wall texture…but, of course, to have a more pyramidal texture that would better suit the Gargoyles, they’d need someone with some talent for creating Ultima 7-compatible tiles to whip up a set of walls for them to use.
