Might We See Shroud of the Avatar on Other Platforms?

DualShockers reports on another interesting comment from Richard Garriott, concerning whether we might see Shroud of the Avatar ported to other platforms (beyond Windows, OS X, and Linux) in the future:

DualShockers had a chat with Garriott himself, and we asked him whether the team at Portalarium is considering to expand beyond the realm of PC gaming.

Garriott mentioned that they “absolutely” thought about it, and one of the reasons why they selected Unity as a development engine is that it makes expanding to other platforms easy.

When development started the Nintendo Switch did not exist yet, but the original target was to put the game on a handheld platform, which at that time could have been an iPad-style tablet.

Yet, now that the Switch is available, according to Garriott that’s probably “an even better next target” for the game.

This additional bit of information was also quite interesting:

Every year or so the folks at Portalarium test recompiling the game on a variety of other platforms just to make sure that it works..

Of course, right now, Portalarium’s priority is supporting the game through its official release on PC. Ports to other platforms will probably depend — as will the development of Episode 2 of the game — on its success on that platform.

Still, if Skyrim can do well on Nintendo’s latest and greatest, I suppose there’s no reason why another fantasy RPG couldn’t be ported to the Switch as well.
