Pillars of Eternity: Release Date Announced
The Pillars of Eternity development team at Obsidian Entertainment have begun their final sprint, readying the game for its release…which will, it has now been announced, take place on March 26th, 2015.
For those of you who didn’t back the game, GOG have put three separate Pillars of Eternity packages on sale. The Hero Edition ($44.99 USD) includes a couple of bonus in-game items:
Space Piglet: Traverse the enchanting plains of Eora with a glow in the dark companion.
Pledge of Gaun Ring: This item gives the ability to shield yourself from the perils that roam the world of Eora.
The Champion Edition ($59.99 USD) includes those, and also includes:
Champion Edition Wallpapers & Ringtones + Campaign Almanac + Hi-Res Game Map + Original Soundtrack + Making of Documentary
Finally, the Royal Edition ($89.99 USD) includes all the above, and then adds:
Digital Strategy Guide + Digital Novella by Chris Avellone + Digital Collector’s Book PDF + Hi Res Concept Art Pieces
I should probably make an earnest effort to pass Divinity: Original Sin before Pillars of Eternity comes out, shouldn’t I? Don’t want to have to juggle two top-tier 3D isometric fantasy games that emphasize old-school mechanics and gameplay, do I?
Pillars isn’t 3D. 🙂
It certainly isn’t made to look 3D. But are the game assets actually 2D?
I think most of the game assets are 3D, excluding the “background”, which probably just includes the ground and buildings. According to Wikipedia:
“Pillars of Eternity will feature a party-based real-time-with-pause tactical gameplay, fixed isometric user interface for the game-world with two-dimensional pre-rendered backdrops,[1][7] in a similar vein as its spiritual ancestors Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale series and Planescape: Torment (all based on BioWare’s Infinity Engine).”
