How’s This For a Sea Chart of Britannia?
So if you’ve been following the Advent Calendar on the front page, you probably spotted this image on the 20th of the month:
It’s a hand-drawn map of Britannia, but the continent and its various islands are in a rather different state here; this is not an arrangement I’m familiar with. As such, I’m not sure whether this was ever used in any game, or whether it remained purely in the realm of the conceptual.
Chlorthos felt inspired upon seeing the map, likening it to a hand-drawn nautical map. And after a bit of unsharp masking and some colour editing in Photoshop, he came up with the variation on it that graces the top of this article. Which you can download here.
Chlorthos Dragon’s adaptation of a concept map of Britannia, unearthed from the Mythic Archives. It has been sharpened and colour-adjusted to look like an old nautical chart.
You know what this would look good as? A “pirate’s map” adorning the office of some shop in Buccaneer’s Den.
Uh, where did you find this?
The original was just one among hundreds of photos in the Mythic Archives.
Further note: it was in a collection of photos of material from Origin Systems, which I’ve been using for the Advent Calendar on the front page. There’s stuff from a variety of time periods, and I can’t say with certainty when this image was drawn up.
Hrmm. follow this link for some insight into what at least what one of the new islands is:

Ah, indeed. I had thought this might be a UO-related map…though equally, it doesn’t seem to have been used – in this overall arrangement – in any UO expansion.
Still…good eyes.
