Lunar Mission One: A Crowdfunded Lunar Probe
I like how Lunar Mission One — a Kickstarter campaign to send a probe to drill at the Moon’s South Pole — has a lower crowdfunding goal than most gaming Kickstarters I could name.
Richard Garriott is evidently a backer of the project, by the way. And if that comes as a surprise to you…presumably you have yourself been living on the Moon for a while now.
I haven’t read the gritty details, but I wonder how they plan to land anything on the moon for that little amount of money, much less drill into it and study and report on the excavated material. Maybe if everyone working on the project is a volunteer (paid nothing and no “expensing” stuff) and the money is used strictly for components and fuel they could pull it off, but damn…best of luck.
