The Longest Journey Finally Comes to iOS
So this might be the most exciting news I’ve read all week. Because it’s something I’ve been waiting on for…actually, just about three years to the day.
That’s right: The Longest Journey has been re-released…on iOS.
Yes, yes…it’s not an Ultima title, and in fact bears no obvious connection to the series, even at the level of inspiration. And yes, it’s already readily available on GOG. That isn’t the point; it’s a great game, and one I’ve been looking forward to having on my mobile for three years now.
It currently appears to be in soft launch in New Zealand, but these sorts of things don’t necessarily have long durations; it could well be released to other markets before the end of the year.
Now I just need to free up some space on my iPhone…
If you’ve not played The Longest Journey, by the way, you really owe it to yourself to do so. It’s a masterwork of the adventure gaming genre. The story is engaging — engrossing and addictive, really — and the game’s setting and world are both wonderfully realized and gorgeously crafted. It has a little bit of everything: science fiction, fantasy, mysticism, religion, a strong female protagonist (a hot topic these days!) and some excellent dystopian cyberpunkish settings as well.
Also…language warning. Very language warning.
I totally agree. The Longest Journey was a gem I discovered some years ago. I really enjoyed it when I played it.
I’m not that fond of mobile/tablet gaming however, but I suppose that since the game is already on PC, it won’t hurt to have it on iOS as well.
I’m certainly waiting for Dreamfall chapters to be released…. It’s been way too long a wait for the third game.
The nice thing about TLJ on mobile is that it gives me a chance to play it again. I really have to triage my PC gaming lately, since I don’t always have time for the “sit down and play” stuff anymore. But games I can drop in and out of at whim on my mobile…those I can usually find time for. And it would be wonderful to replay TLJ.
Also, I should point out that the first chapter of Dreamfall: Chapters has been released as of…last week, I think.
I just noticed that Dreamfall chapters has been released. I just checked right after answering here. I can’t believe I missed that. I’ll have to check If my Desktop can play it. I’m sure my laptop won’t be able to…
I don’t have much time for PC gaming lately either, real life gets in the way now that I’m working again…
But for me, I can’t play on a mobile. I don’t get used to it. I suppose I’m alone on this but I can’t manage to play while I’m on the subway or on my way to work.
Well, at least the chaptered release cycle of Chapters will (hopefully) fit your limited schedule.
