Shroud of the Avatar: Last Map Piece Revealed; Map of Novia Complete
Included with this week’s epic-length Update of the Avatar was, of course, yet another piece of the map of Novia, which Portalarium have been revealing bit by bit over the last few months. And, in fact, this week’s piece is the final piece of the map, which can be seen in its complete state above…or at the Ultima Codex’s always up-to-date Novia page.
Here’s this week’s map piece:
There are no new towns or cities revealed in this piece. Instead, we learn of the rivers Brisace and Eylo (hmmm…that sounds vaguely familiar), a mountain range called The Vauban, and we see revealed the region of Grunvald.
I took the liberty of cleaning up some of the other text on the map as well, making capitalization of region names (and bodies of water) consistent across the board.
I gotta say, it is a little disappointing that Garriott went back to his Ultima 3-style landmass. I could understand it then: he needed to fit as much land area as he could into the map.
But once U4’s Britannia came out it seemed like it could be a real continent. This just doesn’t look like it could really exist in a world. Land doesn’t form like that. Seems like a step back. The names of locations are also very… old-school RPG. Which I guess is kinda the feeling he is going for, so is fine.
Maybe I’m just jaded due to games becoming more and more realistic. I expect worlds to make sense. Or maybe I’m just tired (and sick) and grumpy from work.
Bah! Get off my lawn! *waves a stick at the Codex*
