Shroud of the Avatar: Internal Multiplayer Testing Underway
If you at all follow the Standup Corner thread on the Shroud of the Avatar forums, you may have taken note of this little gem at the beginning of yesterday’s entry therein:
Monday February 10, 2014
Our first full office MP test was last Friday, it went great! A few bugs to sort out, but looking good.
Of course, I suppose we were already aware of the fact that the Portalarium team were testing the game in this way, given the images of an in-game staff meeting that were released recently.
And this is where one of two things will happen: shit gets real crazy real fast or invisible walls are deployed en masse to prevent (paraphrasing) “unforeseen emergence”.
The second thing that will happen is we’ll learn if (what I consider to be highly irritating and ultimately unnecessary) MMO conventions will be deployed, such as:
1) Floating text above players (already in the screenshots).
2) Rows and columns of icons (small things have big endings; also already in the screenshots).
3) Glowing circles, possibly containing runic characters rounding their borders (seen in six-month demo).
4) Single-color particles all over the place (not yet seen, thanks be to the Virtues).
Despite every other MMO having these “features”, they should be curb stomped like skulls in American History X. No mercy. Don’t do it. Please.
