Beautiful Britannia: What News?
Firstknight popped in to the Beautiful Britannia project entry to leave some advice for someone attempting to get the Ultima 9 mod up and running. So I took the opportunity to check in with him and see what the current status of the project is at, since we haven’t had news of it for a while.
As it turns out, Firstknight has transitioned to a new and interesting job in IT management, and has been dealing with the various challenges associated therewith for the last few months. Consequently, he hasn’t had time to work on Beautiful Britannia since at least March (if not before then). As well, he has no releases planned for the remainder of 2013.
However, he has set out a path for developing the mod further in the coming year. He plans to rebuild Vesper to the east of Cove, and to expand Moonglow. The latter effort, especially, will require significant alteration to the terrain, and the reversion of some of his previous changes in and around Dagger Isle. These efforts will be aided by the tools he has been able to develop in the last year or so, which have greatly sped and aided his development progress when he as time to throw at Beautiful Britannia.
He hopes — but does not promise — to release some new screenshots soon, as well.
In addition, I want to thank everyone here for supporting me over the years, especially WTFDragon himself, my friends from Team FW and all, who played the older BB releases, like Dungy.
BB 0.5 (the upcoming release) is quite different to previous releases, the expanded maps brings up both new possibilities and challenges to the development process.
So, back in 2012 I made the desicion to optimize the dev processes first, what was I very good idea in the end. Last week I restarted working on BB, and was able to create quite some object alterations within only 2 hours, which would have taken 20+ hours back in 2011. That’s why I’m very optimistic, when I think about the future of the BB project.
