Ultima Forever & The Eight Virtues: City of Sacrifice

Mythic have once again update the Ultima Forever Facebook page with an image of a Britannian city in its various incarnations. Sacrifice being the Virtue under examination this week, Minoc is what’s on display this time around:

Minoc! City of Tinkers, artists, and craftsman of all types. A sprawling industrial city, Minoc is renown for the Artisans’s Guild – an organization of some of the best musicians and artists in Britannia.

Founded after the declaration of Britannia, Minoc has always been known as the city of Sacrifice.

Minoc has also been known for its shipwright over many installments of the game. A thriving port is only natural at a location known for its industry. The nearby sawmill is responsible for providing the lumber needed for the shipwright. All extra lumber is exported for construction across the whole of Britannia.

In Ultima 4 Minoc was know for its poverty, and even ran a poor-house. It wasn’t until U6 that Minoc abolished all poverty and began to grow. It was at that time when musicians and craftsman gathered here, and the Artisan’s Guild was formed.

In U7 Minoc expanded into a mining town as well. Gypsies settled here, and the Artisan’s Guild attracted many travelers and people wishing to learn a craft.

Come Ultima 9, Minoc had been completely destroyed. When rebuilt, the city was merged with Cove. Still called the City of Sacrifice, it was little more than a settlement of tents and hovels.

What is your favorite place to visit in Minoc? If you could take up a crafting trade in real life, what would it be? Make sure to stop by Julia’s page and read about her history! Her tale of “Julia and the Cloak” is a beautiful story of Sacrifice: http://bit.ly/1aCKK2O

Once again, it can be quite clearly seen that the layout of this city in Ultima Forever closely parallels its layout in Ultima 4. The Poor House, incidentally, is where Linda Sue (from Ultima 4) can be found; she runs the place, in fact.
