So, a strange thing happened this week: Overhaul Games’ Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition was yanked from the Apple App Store and the Beamdog digital distribution service. The only reason given for this was a vague term: “contractual issues”, which — given that the Atari-released version of the game is still available on Steam — makes me think that Overhaul may have overstepped the terms of some agreement they had in place with Atari.

The planned sequel has also been put on hold.

Thief — the upcoming reboot of the classic series — got a fair bit of coverage at E3, and was also shown off a fair bit. Not just screenshots either; at least two gameplay videos (this lengthy one and this somewhat shorter one) were also released. (If nothing else, check out the second video, and watch for the water arrows!) And a few previews of the game also wound up being published, although not as many as you would expect to see for something like this.

A handful of interviews with Thief developers were also published. Eidos Montreal seem to realize that they have to nail the game and get it right more or less on their first shot.

Irrational Games has a few open job postings this week; they’re looking to bring on a Lead FX Artist, a UI Programmer, and a Lead AI Programmer. And in case you haven’t yet played BioShock Infinite and are wondering just how messed up it is…well, even Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, anyone?) thought it was a “mindf–k”.

Guillermo del Toro.

Yeah.

You know what else is messed up? Ken Levine is writing the screenplay for an upcoming remake of Logan’s Run. Which, to be fair, shares certain thematic similarities — e.g. a messed-up dystopian society living in isolation from the rest of the world — with his other work.

Supergiant Games’ Transistor will launch on PlayStation 4 and PC, with Linux and OS X ports coming later. They made no mention of the Xbox One. Transistor itself continues to look intriguing, and the story seems to be steeped in mystery and intrigue. There have been a few previews of the game published in the last week, as well.

Well, the rumours and teasers from last week proved true, as Cryptic Studios’ Neverwinter launched out of its open beta phase. A handful of early reviews of the release version of the game have been published, most giving an overall positive appraisal of the title.

Other Neverwinter-related things to check out this week include this interview with the game’s systems designer, and these job postings that Cryptic put up a few days ago.

ArcheAge will evidently be going free-to-play next month, in Korea. No word yet on whether the North American version will also be free-to-play when it launches.

Also, the state of Rhode Island has decided it will honour the bond repayment for 38 Studios. Probably.

A couple of previews for Deus Ex: The Fall were published in the last week, and both come away praising the game for carrying on the style and theme of Human Revolution. One even notes that the game, despite its platform, doesn’t feel scrunched or small in the least…a good sign, to be sure.

Finally, if you happen to own a PlayStation Vita, Epic Mickey 2 is coming to that handheld in short order, and even has a few Vita-specific features.
