Ex-Interplay Fridays
Obsidian’s Chris Avellone has had a busy summer thus far. He presented some details about Project Eternity at Rezzed, the PC and indie games conference held recently in Birmingham…the one in the United Kingdom. He also took part in a panel with the Ragnar Tornquist and a few others, examining the question of whether storytelling in games has improved in recent years. He also spoke to Eurogamer about current and cancelled projects that Obsidian is/has worked on, and with Strategy Informer about the projects he is personally contributing to. The Eurogamer interview is interesting for the details it reveals about some of the cancelled games…for example, the fact that Aliens: Crucible supposedly had a base-building gameplay element to it.
In a second interview with Eurogamer, Avellone also explained that Obsidian’s involvement with Russian MMORPG Skyforge is actually fairly minimal; they are just helping to put together a US-based team that will be responsible for bringing the game to North America.
Oh, and speaking of Project Eternity, Gamestar wasn’t supposed to release these screenshots (or so I gather)…but release them they did. The images give a glimpse of a bit more than just the (admittedly beautiful) waterfall scene we’ve become used to seeing.
inXile Entertainment published a couple pieces of Wasteland 2 concept art on their Facebook page, and also published an update on the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter page. Backer t-shirts are evidently being shipped out now, and the development update further down the post indicates that most game systems are in place and working, with various teams racing toward feature locks.
Polygamia has an interview with Brian Fargo, which goes into the history of Interplay in some detail, before wrapping up with a look at inXile’s current projects.
Oh, and look…one more South Park: The Stick of Truth preview.
