BioWare Mondays

So last week, Aspyr Media released their iPad port of Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare’s classic Star Wars RPG, evidently as part of a larger push to bring as much of their catalogue as possible to the platform. Reviews of the port are mostly positive, although evidently some of the game’s controls didn’t tranlsate perfectly to the touchscreen context.

Still, between this and the re-release of Baldur’s Gate, it can officially be said that the iPad platform no longer lacks a proper RPG. Now, if only an iPhone 5 port were in the works…

With its version 2.2 update imminent, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be shutting down its Asia-Pacific server, and BioWare are offering players there a free transfer to a North American server in advance of the closure. This is evidently a one-time thing per character, so choose your target server(s) with care.

Update 2.2 will itself be released in two parts, which are collectively known as “Operation Nightmare”.

In other BioWareish news, voice actor Mark Meer thinks the ending of Mass Effect 3 was just fine. And Amazon’s Italian portal accidentally outed Dragon Age 3 as an Xbox One release…although it can’t really be said that such news is all that surprising.

Finally, news broke last week (or was it two weeks ago now) concerning EA’s plans to scrap its Online Pass program for new games. Evidently, older games will also be losing their Online Passes; online features for these games will be accessible without a code.

So there’s more to the move, it would seem, than that upcoming consoles will render the Online Pass concept moot.

Hasn’t Bioware said all along that Dragon Age 3 was targeting next gen consoles?
I anticipated a PS4, XBox One and PC release. Though if it is exclusive to the XBox One, I won’t be playing it.
