Larian Saturdays
It has been another busy week for the team at Larian Studios. The Divinity: Original Sin Kickstarter reached its first stretch goal, prompting Larian to introduce a contest whereby every 1,000 backers added to the project, they will make a monster’s lair beneath something called the Phanton Forest another level deeper. That took off fairly quickly, and soon thereafter they expanded the reward tiers being offered for Kickstarter backers.
Composer Kirill Porkrovsky even put on a concert to gin up support for the project. With just under a week left, the campaign still has a long way to go before it reaches any of its other, more exciting stretch goals…but there is still time.
Also: gameplay video!
Oh, and Gaming Illustrated took at look at Divinity: Dragon Commander recently. So if you’re curious about that game and their impressions of it, hit them up.
I never played the first few Divinity games, but gameplay looks pretty interesting here. However, it is hard to make Ultima VII parallels unless this Kickstarter hits their $800k and $1m stretch goals.
I really appreciate what they’re trying to do, and I think the game looks fun and promising. I fundamentally disagree with how they’re doing it (I’m a purist sandbox guy), but their heart is in the right place and I think their execution will come scarily close to bridging the gap between sandbox and story. Very excited to see projects like this finding traction.
