A Review of Ultima 1 For the Apple IIgs
A tweet from Rebecca Heineman leads us, in turn, to a video review of the Apple IIgs port of Ultima 1:
youtube.com/watch?v=6utp4T… A review of Ultima I for the Apple IIgs, a game I did in 1994 with my friends Scott Everts and Tony Gonzalez.

As Heineman notes, the port was released by what was then her development company (Vitesse Inc.) in 1994…two years after Apple had ceased IIgs production. The IIgs was an influential computer, however, and many well-known game developers worked extensively with the platform.
This is great! I’ve been looking for a video of this for a long time. All that has ever been posted on the internet before was 1 or 2 screenshots – that’s it.
Now someone needs to take the IIGS enhancements (graphics and sounds) and improve the PC version. I think all the other PC versions have pretty well been updated to the best available. (The Playstation Ultima Underworld being the other exception that comes to mind.)
I am so glad I shared the video Tanru Nomad made with Burger Becky and then it got here. Tanru does a lot of cool Apple II or obscure computer video reviews and deserves to be seen by more folks. Plus he is like the first person to really show us anything about the game other than that it exists. (Wonder if I could get him to cover Ultima Trilogy Apple II one of these days?) I also think he covered some of the Ultima styled games the Apple II had on it as well.
A port of Ultima 1 in 1994? Huh.
Cool, I’m very happy that someone posted this. I would love to hear the full soundtrack.
