Random Wednesdays
We’ve gotten a look at a few different things from Cryptic Studios’ upcoming MMORPG Neverwinter over the last week, including the frost giant, in-game mounts, some new screenshots, and the Great Weapon Fighter class.
And Driftmoon, the years-in-development indie RPG that homages Ultima 7 in a number of ways, has been getting a lot of attention from reviewers over the last few days, and even the RPG Codex had something nice to say about it. In fact, most of the reviews the game has been getting have been exceedingly positive.
From the sound of it, BioShock Infinite continues the trend of Ken Levine’s games having what could be termed “meaningful violence, if that makes sense. We’ve also learned a bit more, over the past week, about what changes Levine had made to the game when one of his staffers — evidently an artist — objected to the depiction of the game’s villain’s religiosity. Also explained is how Levine’s changes enriched the character, bringing elements into play that had previously been left out (a lot of which, it would seem, are related to the concept of forgiveness, and the desire for same).
Some of you may also be happy to hear that ultra-realism in graphics is not the goal of BioShock Infinite. As well, more pre-order promotions and action figures have been revealed for the game. And GiantBomb managed to score a preview of it.
The ongoing saga of 38 Studios’ bankruptcy took another interesting turn recently, as Curt Schilling asked a judge to throw out the lawsuit currently filed against the now-defunct studio and its former owners.
Beamdog has released another patch for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, fixing a few crashes and adding a few new minor features and items to the game.
ArcheAge, the Korean sandbox MMORPG, will evidently feature casino-style gambling, and some of the rewards thereof will be blueprints for player houses.
And because it’s now a trendy thing to do to publish wishlists for games that haven’t really even been announced yet, PC Gamer have listed what they’d like to see in the next Deus Ex.
And it would appear that Thi4f, the fourth instalment in the Thief series, will now just be called Thief. It will be the cover feature at GameInformer next month, and a handful of screenshots have been released to tease us.
In the spirit of the long-dead RIOT: I just noticed that neither your personal nor Ultima Codex Twitter accounts are following my project anymore. Have I lost an eighth? I unfollowed your personal account, but that was because it had multiple tweets daily and I don’t have any fancy apps set up to control content (I just read all the tweets via the web). Hopefully it wasn’t some kind of retaliation for that, as it wasn’t personal. I’ve gotten a vibe for a while now (maybe I’m just paranoid) that you don’t think my project is all that Ultima-like, so if that’s the case no problem. What’s inspired by, or similar to, an Ultima is highly subjective. Maybe it’s only in my mind that my game is inspired by Ultima. In any case, thanks for all the attention you showed my game previously. I’m PR-challenged, so it has helped more than anything else. I am starting to feel like a whining bitch for even writing this, but again I must know as I find it curious.
No…it’s a Twitter thing…some bug in their codebase that causes random unfollows. I’ve seen a few people complain about it.
You’re @eightvirtues, right? I’ll re-follow presently.
Word, thanks.
Great job on the site upgrade, especially allowing post editing and deletion requests. While it may seem like a minor change, if someone ever posts something with an error (or grossly ignorant), at least it can be corrected within a few moments of realization.
And renaming Thi4f to Thief is probably the easiest and smartest thing they could have done. When I first read it I was like, “Whaaaa???”. Se7en was bad, Thi4f was ridiculous. Ahem.
It has been a commonly-requested feature for some time, so I’m glad I can finally offer it. I may still tweak the exact appearance of the interface elements that appear beneath each comment, but the functionality is here to stay.
Also: thanks!
