Digital Lycaeum: Public Domain Sound Effects by Sanctimonia
Over the last several days, Kevin Fishburne (our own Sanctimonia) has been releasing a series of sound effects to the public domain. On Twitter, he noted:
Initial implementation of surface-specific player footstep audio effect code and recording setup complete. Rocks, water and hay to the mic!
Then followed that up with:
More player footstep audio effect work… 18 surface types with 8 variations each. Impending recordings will be PD.
Since that time, he has released (and noted his intention to release) the following:
- Footsteps in Shallow Water
- Footsteps in Medium Water
- Footsteps in Deep Water
- Footsteps in Very Lightly Wooded Terrain
- Footsteps in Lightly Wooded Terrain
- Footsteps in Moderately Wooded Terrain
- Footsteps in Heavily Wooded Terrain
- Footsteps in Very Heavily Wooded Terrain
- Twigs Snapping under Footsteps
- Footsteps in Wet Sand
- Footsteps in Dry Sand
- Footsteps in Sand Dunes
- Shells Popping under Footsteps
- Footsteps on Bedrock

We would like to thank Kevin for allowing us to host these sound effect on the Digital Lycaeum, and praise his selflessness in offering these recordings free to the public domain. This means that all of his hard work can be used by anyone, for any purpose (including commercial), without any compensation or acknowledgement.
So, if you need sound effects for your fan game, or just want to have a listen at what is happening in Sanctimonia, get ye to the Lycaeum!
