BioWare Mondays
It would appear that the Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3 may well be the best part of the game, at least if some reviews are to be believed. If nothing else, it certainly seems to win praise for some truly excellent writing. It has even inspired at least one crazy “ending theory”.
Which, I suppose, is a fitting send-off indeed for the series as it moves from BioWare’s Edmonton office to their Montreal studio for once and for all, making way for the Edmonton team to get to work on a new IP. As yet, there has been no information released concerning what the next Mass Effect game will be about, but we do know that Ian “Tiberius/Tibby” Frazier is the lead gameplay designer for it. That alone makes it worth paying some attention to.
BioWare also released some gameplay statistics about the Mass Effect franchise, letting all the world know that fully 82% of players played as Male Shepard, that two-thirds of players opted for the Paragon route, and that just under half of us elected to play the Soldier class, making it the most popular class overall.
And if you want some additional Mass Effect-related reading, here’s one of its writers talking about how writing meaningful female characters shouldn’t be a big deal. And here’s a former BioWare writer talking about branching narrative and character arcs.
Servers for Star Wars: The Old Republic are evidently teeming with people, and it would appear that the game added two million or so user accounts after going free-to-play. So I guess that move worked.
BioWare’s Edmonton office is looking to hire a Senior Technical Artist, by the way. And Koobismo had a chance to interview David Gaider recently.
