Deck Yourself (And Your Infant) Out With the Eight Virtues!

Akalaupdate: As Dominus notes in a comment, below, it would appear that Mr. Cane has pulled the shirt off his Redbubble page. Alas!

It goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway) that this t-shirt by one Harry Cane is not an official, licensed Ultima product. Arguably, however, the image he’s using on the shirt is — unless I am greatly mistaken — not an official art piece developed by Origin Systems or any other Electronic Arts studio. I’m pretty sure the “green and gold” image of the symbol of the Eight Virtues is a fan-made piece, which is probably why the good Mr. Cane has been able to sell these wares without being served any sort of takedown notice.

Granted, the shirts are a bit on the pricy side ($25.48 USD at present), although that is likely due to the fact that Redbubble used American Apparel clothing. It would appear that the shirt is available in a wide range of colours, and both infant and toddler “onesies” and stickers are also available…in case you want to deck your children and/or computer out in most virtuous finery!

It’s amazing what sort of treasures you can unearth with Google Images, isn’t it?

  1. Actually, that image was from the Ultima 9 website. You can see a smaller version of it on the archived Virtues page: http://web.archive.org/web/20001022130940/http://www.ultima9.com/virtues.html

I believe it was made available as a wallpaper or background at one point. I’ve got a copy of it on the Lycaeum with a green and gold pattern behind it.

On uo.com they had a codex symbol pendant, earrings, keychain, shirt, etc, at one point, I didn’t know they supply would last so short a time so I didn’t order it when I saw it, along with British’s serpent symbol of the same, pendant, keychain, shirt, etc, these are now the rarest official trinkets of modern times, really wish I got one, the one thing I did get was a pewter UO dragon, the 1st version, printed on the bottom is only 2,500 made.

As much as I hate large corporations beating little guys over the head with giant sticks, I hope these shirts are legit as the original piece of art is quite nice and it appears to have been copied verbatim. Good find Browncoat.

Well, a couple of people on the UDIC Facebook group have ordered them, or plan to at least. Guess we’ll know soon enough how legit it is.

Had I more money, I’d be tempted to grab a couple for the upcoming baby (have I mentioned we’re expecting again at my house?), but…nobody I know would get the joke.

Redbubble is a site for artists to upload their artwork and then sell it on T-shirts and various other paraphernalia (which the company manufactures on-demand). It’s supposed to be original artwork but if you look through what’s there, people are selling a ton of stuff from video games, movies etc… a lot of stuff which is definitely not their original work. I’ve bought quite a bit of cool stuff there and there’s definitely no indication any of the artists have permission to be using the things they’re using. So it’s not legit, I just don’t think anybody cares enough to do anything about it.
