He notes that the attack system is actually still in the Ultima 5 form, as indicated by the presence of aiming rather than attack directionality. Still, it would appear that he has made great progress changing the combat system over, progress we hope to see continue in the future.
Fearyourself has made some good progress on his Ultima-inspired game engine, Back to Roots, over the last week and a bit. Exiting dungeons is now supported, and he has begun working with in-game triggers.
Fearyourself has more or less polished off the implementation of classic Ultima dungeons in Back to Roots, and is wondering what he should focus his efforts on next.
I’ll add that I’ve relatively finished the patch to get the directions working as it did in Ultima 4. Though, don’t ask me why, I believed last night that there was friendly fire in U4 but there isn’t. I remember now, looking at the video again, lining my party to attack with bows a single monster. I don’t remember there being any range either.
Though now that I think about it, I have a solution to make the animation of the bullets work well with my overlay system so I might be switching my patch a bit with a smarter way of doing it 🙂
Stay tuned,
Jc
Ps: next job after this is attacking the dungeon renderer. Remember I have it working for U4 but using the U5 graphics, now I’ll implement the viewer as it was for U4 (or try at least :-))
