Hero-U

As I wrote in my Examiner column, one of the first games I can remember playing, apart from Ultima 6 and a couple of children’s games from Sierra, is Quest for Glory: So You Want To Be a Hero. Or, as it was known when I first played it, Hero’s Quest: So You Want To Be a Hero, which was before a trademark issue forced the developers to re-brand it.

The Quest for Glory games ultimately stretched into a series spanning five titles, each of which was excellent in its own way and for its own reasons. The setting changed with each successive title, introducing the player to new and exciting locales, populated by new and interesting characters (and enemies) in need of a hero (or a good stomping thereby, as the case may be). The one constant through all five games was the humour; the games kept an overall very light-hearted tone, and kept the gags and in-jokes coming at a rapid pace. The gameplay, too, was always excellent, and accessible as well; it was never hard to get into a Quest for Glory.

Which is why Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is such an exciting prospect. The Kickstarter campaign for it started up late last week, and with that crowd-funding drive, Lori and Corey Cole are hoping to return to genre-bending hilarity of the old Quest for Glory games. Definitely consider supporting this one…it looks and sounds like a fun one.

Oh, and do check out this interview with Corey Cole in the New York Post while you’re at it.

  1. There is only one more day left to donate, and the Coles still need some help reaching their goal. This game looks great, and if it is half as much fun as the original Quest for Glory series, it will kick the pants off most of the games that have been released recently.

Seriously, get over to Kickstarter and donate!

  2. And, it is funded! New Quest for Glory style game coming next year. Great news!
