Forgotten World: News…And a New Poll (It’s About Bugs)
In a fairly lengthy update to the Forgotten World website, Iceblade nicely captions recent progress that has been made on both Forgotten World and Beautiful Britannia:
…FirstKnight has sent in an update to the Codex about BB with a preview of the terrain he has been working work, which includes three major landmass additions: the Western Deep Forest Region/West of Yew territory, a new mountainous region that occupies the region formerly known as the Drylands, and an all new Verity Isle complete with the town of Moonglow. The team is very excited by the work that he is doing and we are all looking forward to the screenshots that will be coming starting next month.
In other news, Hawkwind has been making some excellent progress with the editor, so expect some updates about that in the coming weeks with some Awesome screenshots.
They have also published a new poll for everyone’s consideration:
With our last couple of patches, we have managed to squash most bugs previously mentioned in polls. Even so, I have a list of over 100 things to fix (excluding simple NPC scheduling fixes). Some of these fixes are really minor and others are far more involved and significant. So we are again asking you which bugs we are to target next…
The poll options include:
- A Fully Functional Covetous Elevator
- Remove All Skeleton Respawns
- Fix Valoria-Jordan Shipwreck bugs
- Valoria Signal Flare Scripting bugs
- Rat-Mayor Scene in Paws
- A lot of minor fixes in Moonglow
Iceblade explains each poll option in greater detail in the same news post that was linked above, so head there first if you’d like some more detail. If, on the other hand, you’ve already spotted your hot-button issue on this list, head on over to the Forgotten World website and vote today!
I promise the next several polls will be more interesting than asking about bugs.
That’s awesome stuff! I can’t wait to try out the new terrain and textures!
I never found the skeletons TOO annoying, or encountered the Covetous bug (never tried to reenter the dungeon), But, I sure do hate the shipwreck bug, and I’ve never once actually gotten the signal flare scene to occur. I’ve only read about it in walkthroughs. GOOD LUCK!
I would like bugs that don’t alter gameplay that much. I’m not much into balancing the game or changing spawn points as much as make things as were supposed to work. I really like skeletons in that game. They are really annoying and a real threat. I prefer having those at it is. Anyway I voted for the shipwreck. I think that I have just managed to get it once of all the times I have replayed the game.
The only bug I experienced in my recent playthrough was the mayor-rat bug, and the Moonglow Tydus bug/daemon bug. I’m not aware of what the Valoria shipwreck bug is…
Your killing me with the skeleton option!
By respawn, do you mean they would not resurrect even if you didn’t take a bone? Or do you mean, like the skeletons in Cove that actually respawn an infinite number of times when you revisit that area?
I’m assuming the latter since the resurrection isn’t really a bug of sorts. Either way, when I first found that skeletons in Cove respawned, I had a field day at LB’s castle. It sounds silly, but it was the most fun part of u9 for me. I’d link my u9 forum post from here to show how many skeletons I had(I actually had about 60 by the game’s end) but there’s some sort of glitch for me to access the forum.
Please don’t take it out! It’s too much fun!
I’m mainly focused on the skeleton respawns in Covetous, not those running around the main map.
I shouldn’t say it, but I’m pretty sure there’s more than just the Cove respawn skeletons. The entire dungeon is filled with those type of skeletons. And I’m pretty sure there’s a few other spots that have them. Which I would agree, in the dungeon it was pretty annoying.
But I hope you leave a couple of them running around! Like I’ve said, it was one of my favourite parts, having an army of the undead was awesome! It made the meteor spell a lot more useful. It adds some excitement being able to fight 60 skeletons off in LB’s castle.
I’m not really a fan of the respawning enemies in some games, and it really makes no sense in U9. It is just a pain in the butt to constantly kill rats and pirates for no good reason. In Covetous, however, the skeleton respawn can really create problems if you repeatedly go through an area. Not to mention, it leads to more aggravation due to the greater chance of getting drag-on inventory crash that I’ve always had and which is probably more common than the Tydus cave camera crashes.
I’m all in favour of the pirates not respawning.
Most respawns I won’t remove, but the bandits along the road to Paws will definitely be stopped from respawn after the player kills Tristian.
