BioWare Mondays
BioWare have clarified some lingering questions about the Mass Effect Trilogy compilation that will be released in the near future. Depending on which system you purchase the Trilogy for, you’ll either get a fair chunk of DLC (PC), a bit of DLC (Xbox 360), or essentially no DLC…at least for now (PlayStation 3 — why is it always Sony?).
A massive patch for Mass Effect 3 was released last week, as previously mentioned. It includes many bugfixes and other changes for both the single-player and multiplayer side of the game. Multiplayer players will also be able to grab the free Retaliation DLC this week, which will add Collectors as enemies and various other nifty updates. I have heard rumour that the Volus will be selectable as a playable race…
Also, a handful of interesting fan projects have crept up in the last week, including Red Sand, a fan-made Mass Effect prequel featuring a appearance by Mark “The Voice of Male Commander Shepard” Meer. For those of you who Minecraft, do be sure to check out this model of the Citadel, one of the pivotal locations in the series. And if any of you play Sins of the Solar Empire, this mod is probably worth a look.
There’s been a bit of discussion about Dragon Age 3 in the gaming press this week, as well. Well, okay, just one notable mention, an editorial with a fairly negative outlook. BioWare writer Brent Knowles did put up a blog post explaining what he felt BioWare had learned from DA2 and how this would make DA3 better, though.
The lead designer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, Daniel Erickson, has officially quit BioWare Austin. The Austin studio can now add his position to their job board, next to this senior client software engineer role they’re looking to fill.
Also on the SWTOR front, do have a read of this article, about the challenges inherent in merging BioWare’s storytelling style with the MMORPG experience.
Oh, and if (like me) you’re thinking about getting back into SWTOR once it goes free-to-play, you may want to check out these tools.
Its always interesting to read about what the company thinks they learned, and compare it to what the players hoped they had learned. lol
It looks like the link to the article about BioWare storytelling is missing…
I will be looking at TOR again when its F2P, although I havn’t played since Beta. It was fun running through the introduction for each character class, but I felt the lack of customization. Not being able to choose your fighting styles, or force abilities, just seemed a little off. Sad that KotOR was better in this respect than the multi-billion dollar MMORPG.
(Tangent: What’s going on with the Forum posts? Crazy spammer.)
Not missing…I just forgot the ‘=’ sign after the “href” property.
And yeah, there’s been some forum spam. I’m marking it as such as I go, but evidently some new bot has figured out how to sneak past Akismet. Should be right again in a few days. Or I’ll disable anonymous posting and kill the problem dead right away.
