Torchlight 2 came out just recently, and has been garnering one rave review after another after another…with some even daring to call the game “pretty much perfect“. It sounds like it hits almost every note right, as far as loot-fest action-RPGs go. If that isn’t your bag, Torchlight 2 is probably not for you…but if you derive some entertainment value from that side of the genre, Torchlight 2 might just be the pinnacle of the genre…at least to date. The consensus seems to be that Diablo 3 ain’t got nothin’.
And you can’t beat the price tag.
Several gaming sites have also published notes, impressions, build guides and…er…more build guides to help get you started in the game.
Runic, for their part, are not giving themselves that much of a breather after getting the game out the door. Content updates are being planned, a demo has been made available, and…well, okay, the rumours of a Torchlight MMO have surfaced again, but Runic have downplayed those.
Moving on!
The Foundry feature for Neverwinter has been detailed a bit; Cryptic has explained the quest editor for their upcoming MMORPG a bit. Gamasutra praises the move, noting that allowing players to create content neatly solves the issue of the developer constantly having to come up with new material to keep an MMO’s story thriving. The risk, of course, is that people will be…what’s the word?…dicks, and essentially turn the Foundry into just one more means of trolling others. Time will tell, I suppose.
Oh, and this is just neat: from out of basically nowhere, some presumably fan-made patches for System Shock 2 and Thief 2 have appeared, adding tons of graphical and general improvements and making numerous bugfixes to both games. (Thanks, Infinitron, for bringing that to my attention!)
