It’s European Game Developer Weekend!
Well, actually, since the Saturday feature is Larian Studios and the Sunday feature is CD Projekt, it’s always European game developer weekend around here. But as I missed posting anything yesterday due to being out with my wife’s family celebrating Father’s Day…I’m just going to make like I did with Bethesda and Obsidian and push out a combined post for both studios.
Larian Studios’ Sven Vincke posted a blog entry giving his thoughts on the E3 experience as an indie developer. He strikes kind of a both/and position, noting that the experience was by many measures rewarding, but also cautioning other aspiring developers about some of the potential struggles and pitfalls that an E3 trip could throw their way…not the least of which is getting noticed! (He’s also published a second blog post on the same topic.)
Not that Larian’s projects have trouble getting noticed, it seems. Divinity: Dragon Commander has been previewed in several places, including this piece at Kotaku. The genre-busting game is, I have to admit, beginning to attract some of my curiosity.
Divinity: Original Sin has also attracted some attention, including this amusing — and bloody interesting — demo from Gamespot:
Seriously, I hope the editing toolkit for Original Sin is robust.
Meanwhile, on the CD Projekt front, CD Projekt Red’s Marcin Iwinski gave Gamespot an interview about the upcoming Cyberpunk RPG the studio is working on
Iwinski and head of marketing Michal Platkow-Gilewski also sat down with VentureBeat to talk about the RPG as well. Interesting tidbits from it include the fact that they don’t plan on releasing a game that looks worse than shooters on the same hardware generation, and that the game won’t be a PC-exclusive at launch; a Mac version (at least) is in the works as well.
Kenneth, you never did post about Excelsior.
You’re right, my bad. I’ll try jump on that tonight or tomorrow.
