The Baldur's Gate Website Now Boasts A Countdown! (Updated!)
Infinitron Dragon alerted me to this (watchful fellow that he is): over on the recently re-launched Baldur’s Gate website, a countdown timer has been added, ticking away the hours, minutes, and seconds until…something.
At present, there’s just a little over sixteen hours remaining on the timer, suggesting that we’ll see some sort of news, ideally about what the website actually means, tomorrow. That, or we’ll be handed the first piece of some sort of viral marketing puzzle. But I’m hoping for the former.
The First Age of Update: If you had “Enhanced Edition”, you win the pool. There’s little else to say at this point, and the site is currently melting under the weight of the Internet. But I’m thinking that means an HD update, not unlike Beamdog’s treatment of MDK2.

Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine
It is coming.
37:00 remaining
anticlimatic
it reached 00:00:00 and nothing changed
🙁
we still have to wait
From Joystiq –
Update: Beamdog reps tell us that the team at Overhaul is adding “new, original content” to the original game to make up the Enhanced Edition. “This is the Enhanced Edition, it’s not a repackage. We have the original source code and are doing a significant update.” He also confirms that no platforms have been announced just yet.
Update 2: A Beamdog rep also confirms that the company is self-publishing. Though he wouldn’t go into detail regarding the new content, he says that “it’s being lovingly crafted in the spirit of the original with the help of some of the original developers.” Additionally, Cameron Tofer and Trent Oster have been working on the project (“planning and organizing”) for “over a year now.” We’ll also hear more soon, as the team is planning “regular announcements every week with more details.”

I wonder what legal gymnastics they had to go through with EA/Bioware, Interplay, Atari and Wizards of the Coast to do this.
Dunno if Interplay’d be involved any more. Atari, maybe marginally more. The big two for negotiations would be EA and Hasbro. Still pretty convuluted, I’d bet.
And well, that’s interesting. No mention of EA or Bioware, or Interplay on the website. Surprised Atari got a mention; looks like they are doing publisher duties, then.
Has anyone here actually played D&D? As in being a DM or at least having a good one?
Yeah, but it’s been years.

Beamdog/Overhaul is self publishing according to Trent Oster, Atari is mentioned because they have the rights to the BG/IWD games.
I’ve played D&D/AD&D since 1984 as a player and DM.
Hopefully the delegates will execute.
@Renaak Good to hear. I wonder about game players these days. Til you’ve accidentally described a bald man with grey hair you don’t really know the pleasures of RP’ing or DM’ing. We laughed pretty hard when I made that mistake in the midst of otherwise decent impromptu storytelling. I also killed someone melodramatically after continually ignoring my advice and growing bored. It was his exit from the game, which while controversial was accepted even though it involved being flung off a cliff. Good times. 🙂
