To celebrate the release of Ultima 7 on Good Old Games today, it seems fitting to revisit one of the few instances in the Ultima series where you could arrive at an alternate ending for the game…the bad ending for Ultima 7 that was triggered if you opted to step through the Black Gate instead of destroy it.

I was actually unaware — or, if I was aware, had totally forgotten — that this ending existed before September, 2011.
